What’s the difference between Final Cut Express & Final Cut Pro?

Dec 31, 2005 at 4:28 am in Uncategorized by .

Since Final Cut Express was released, the gap has narrowed between FCE and FCP. Express is a perfectly fine editing program and should work well for anyone not needing the extra features Final Cut Pro has, which include:

  • support for a lot more codecs, from the wonderful Pro Res to IMX, DVCPRO, XDCAM and a lot more
  • support for third party cards from AJA, Blackmagic and others
  • customized window and keyboard layouts
  • media manager
  • FXscript
  • XML and OMF import/export
  • FCP includes three-way color correction plus scopes, Express only has the single color wheel color corrector
  • multicam
  • batch export

And of course, Final Cut Pro comes with the whole software suite, including Compressor, Cinema Tools, Color, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Motion.
