tips
iMovie provides many effects and transitions, and the key is to use as many as you can in each project. Just kidding.

Actually we would urge you to only use effects and transitions that enhance your story. Sticking to regular cuts and a dissolve here or there will make your edits much more professional.

Here are some editing techniques which are very effective without using filters or transitions.

Cut on action: When making cuts, try not to include static frames. If a clip shows a person walking into the frame make the cut as the subject is entering the frame, not 3 seconds before the person enters the frame.

Use the cutaway shot: Make use of that B-roll footage to add interest to your edit. The cutaway shot momentarily replaces the video while keeping the original audio.

Use matched action edits: Cutting from one angle to another while the action flows smoothly adds a polished look to your edit.
Use voice over to enhance your story: The narrator could be speaking what the subject is thinking, or simply telling the story that's unfolding on screen.

Just speak into your camcorder mic as you watch your edit, then capture that footage and Extract Audio.
