I had downloaded the .dmg and tried to open it to find the x264 Icon in OS X 3.9. The above problem happened to me. I switched to my OS X 4.0 system and all is well. I've looked at this article. The x264Encoder.component appears as a plugin icon whereas mine appears as a folder. Is this the problem? I'm wanting to use this from FCP6. Cheers.
