This article is poor advice, there are several things wrong with it.

1. - itunes is not quality software. It should not be used for professional work.
2. - Cds's sample rates are are always 44.1 KHz. Any setting above this will not improve quality. Also Mp3s and other compressed files are usually 44.1 KHz too.
3. - This is a big one - converting MP3 to WAV before editing will not give you any advantage. An MP3 (as well as WMA, AAC, FLAC, OGG, etc) is a compressed format and converting it to WAV (uncompressed) will not restore the lost data. Almost all editing software will be able to import a MP3 (and others) and you can edit it directly. I suggest using Adobe Audition, Protools or Audacity for editing.
4. - If you wish to get music off a CD for editing I suggest that you use EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and import it as a WAV file. This will get you the best quality / sounding track.

Can you be more specific in what you are trying do?
