Josh Mellicker in the forum topic capturing footage shot in progressive scan mode on pd150 onto avid Xpress pro HD in the group Editors
By “jittery”, do you just mean “stroby”? This is because the “picture” changes 30 times a second compared to the smoother 60 times a second for interlaced video.
Most people think 24 or 30 fps looks […]

Hi there,
In advance I apologise if this is a ridiculous question. I did some filming recently and on advice from an experienced cameraman I know, I filmed it in progressive scan mode on my sony pd150.
He […]

Hey everyone,
I’m editing my first feature length documentary and my director has hired an intern to transcribe all the interviews while I just began cutting. Years ago, I used this nifty program that allows the user to watch all your clips off a tape deck, set in/out points, and transcribe the interview. Then you could save this as a word or…[Read more]

Hi Josh,
I looked at your article but when I am trying to change the Compressor Type there is no PNG option. Virtually everything else but not that. I am using FCP 7 any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi Josh,
Thanks of the exporting advice. I’ll give it a go and let you know how I get on.

Hmmm… I have not heard of the green and pink square pattern! But here is what I’d do:
1. I would export as PNG as described in method #3 of this […]

Hi Josh,
I have read the section on sample lab but doesn’t answer my problem.I shot in HDV and the timeline sequence preset is HDV and I exported the file as a QT self contend movie. The file itself looks […]

What format is your footage? What format is your timeline?

Ah, I just saw your other post:
Hi,
This is probably a really simple question for you guys. I have exported a file from FCP as a quicktime movie – not using quick time conversion. I’ve brought it into DV […] -
Also, what format is your footage in? How does the exported movie look?
The quickest way would be to use SampleLab to determine you TOQ, then QuickSpecs.
Watch this […]

I would try the 24p plugin from the FilmStyles plugin set – it will convert 1080i to 24p as well or better than anything.
If you use this coupon code:
FilmStylesFor35the set will be […]

I have some of POV Steadicam 1080i footage with a lot of movement that I need to convert to 24 fps. FCP exportQuicktime does it but with all the movement in the footage, it comes out a little “jerky.” I […]

It sounds like you might be exceeding maximum white levels. Did you color correct? What app did you edit in?

That’s a really good question! There was an app called ”Get” that tried to auto-transcribe, but it seems like it’s no longer available.
We have an app called Movie Notetaker, but to make it more useful for your purpose it should be able to slow down video… but here it is:
