Have you looked at the Canon T2i? Not good for events, since 12 minutes in one roll is max, but what an amazing picture!

I don’t have a 5D but I just got a T2i and I have a zoom H4n that I will pair with my Rode shotgun mic. Then I will use Pluraleyes to sync.
