I’m using compressor to convert 1080i HD footage to Apple TV 1280x720p m4v format but compressor only allows this file to be 24 fps and not the 29;97 as originally shot. This results in ”choppy” motion. Any solution??

I have footage from a Canon GL-2 shot 4:3 on a minidv. What apple compressor should I use to get the best image qualitiy for a potential theatrical sized viewing.
If you do know this would you mind explaining why.

CORRECTION: DVCPRO HD 108060i, 1280 x 1080 suddenly coming thru Final Cut Log and Transfer as DVCPRO HD 1080p30.
Sorry everyone – I rushed thru this earlier. My post should have said that Panasonic footage shot at DVCPRO HD 108060i. Not sure where the DV/DVD Codec concept came from.

Hi all .. I’m on a job where we are using media from two types of cameras.
Canon 5d’s and Panasonic HVX 200′s.The media from the Canon’s is at 1920 x 1080 23.97
The media from the Panasonic’s is DV/DVD 1280 x 1080 60iWe are running the Canon footage thru compressor and formatting it as Apple Pro Res 422 1920 x 1080 at 23.98.

in preproduction i would run from anything that has to do with compressing the footage especially on a conversion..compression uses an algorythm that at most times drops frames..some software lets you decide if and at what rate..this happens…compression should only be used in presentation..to cut file size..
Thanks Raymond, Yes, this is for final presentation – actually an hour long video that will be downloaded by a number of clients so I need to compress it to make it a reasonable download. Im not sure you are aware of this..im gonna assume your not..The quicktime player,,you use to play qt movies!!offers a pro version…very cheap ..you can buy it through the player itself..once registered as a pro version..it opens a large amount of conversion possibilities…especially ….users of Apple products!!!!
