I would love to see a detailed explanation of the differences between line signal and mic signal as far as voltage and amperage and db are concerned.

Instinct is telling me that it would be foolish to plug output X into input Y on a brand new camera, but I'd like to know more about the details.

I'm strongly considering using a Tascam DR100 (although I wish they would offer a stripped down one for cheaper without the silly built in microphones... who pays 400 bucks for a recording device with all those inputs and uses built in microphones?), but I also have inputs that will need to be managed from a handful of other sources and I want to handle these things carefully and safely.

One major item that is probably of use for many is audio/music equipment like guitars and audio mixers for music and performance based around these types of devices.
