A side note: In 2008, the teleprompter at the Republican National Convention had a malfunction where it could not slow down, so it went at a constant speed. Because of this, speakers like McCain and Juliani had to either ignore applause and power through it, or try to remember the words when they were long since gone. Political pundits said this ruined their speeches and made them come across badly on TV.

During 2008, the Obama campaign purchased 4 copies of PromptDog from us, presumably for various spokespeople, but also Senator Obama to practice with. Many people credit his speechmaking with winning the election, and he has commonly been called "The Prompter President" by the press.

We are not political one way or another, (if anything, we are anti-politics!) but it is interesting that a little prompting program called PromptDog may have made a tiny little difference in the future of the planet!

Perhaps the most important key to an engaging presentation when speaking, is to vary your tone and rate of speech.

So it follows that the teleprompter operator must be very good at constantly varying the speed of the prompter so that the currently spoken line is on the "eyeline" (the triangle).

Presetting a speed and leaving it there would result in a speaking voice that did not vary in speed, so it would be very monotonous and boring to listen to.

That's why we've made PromptDog so sensitive, so it is very easy to "ride" the speed to match the delivery of the talent.

Hi there, I just perchased and installed PD and I have a few questions.

1. Should the text start scrolling when push the 'Start' button? Because that doesn't happen. I know It does after using my trackpad or up 'arrow'. But then it depends on how fast you touch your trackpad. So each time you then have to adjust the speed and it is very hard to each time use the same speed. Why not a function where you can set a scrollspeed (by number for example) and that will start at that speed when you hit the start button. Now the chance of different speeds during the takes is too big.

I think, missing the function of setting a speed, is crucial. Now it is too easy to change the speed when you don't want it. When you slightly touch the trackpad, there goes the speed up or down.

2. When I open the talent window it is stuttery too, not very stuttery, but any stuttery makes it not usable of course.

So I hope that i'm missing something otherwise I've purchased the wrong programm I'm afraid.

I'm having a lot of problems getting PD to scroll smoothly in prompt mode. It starts out fine, but after a few minutes of use, the scrolling becomes stuttery and choppy. It does recover back to normal operation after a few seconds of the stuttering, but again after another couple of minutes of normal operation, it malfunctions again. I am running it on an ACER 5200 Laptop with 1GB of RAM. Proc. Speed is 1.6ghz and the video is a Radeon 1100 with 128mb of RAM. Operating system is WIndows XP Pro SP3. The software design and editing of text are fantastic, but unless I can solve the scrolling problem, I will have to look for alternate TP software. Hope you can help me with this problem.

Thanks
