Apple may add storyboarding to Final Cut Pro?

I remember heading to dinner 6 or 7 years ago with Randy Ubillos, creator of Final Cut Pro, telling him my vision for a future FCP update- incorporating some pre-production elements like storyboarding, in which the user would link captured clips to a storyboard frame, then FCP would rough cut the project together automatically, with multiple takes being multiclips so they could be easily compared.

Now, it’s possible Apple is patenting some storyboarding processes to incorporate into FCP?

Canon VIXIA HV40 HDV Camcorder

The Canon VIXIA HV40 HDV Camcorder, a replacement to the highly acclaimed VIXIA HV30 camcorder, shares the core components found within the VIXIA line, but also offers a Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens and 2.96 Megapixel Full HD CMOS Image Sensor. What’s more, the camcorder allows consumers to record in native 24p Mode, a feature previously found only on Canon’s professional camcorders. Native 24p allows consumer to capture and record 24 progressive frames per second to a HDV tape, a big advantage for the serious filmmaker. Another add-on feature, Custom Key Mode, enables …

iPhone 2.2 software update includes video podcast download

Today, Apple released an update to the iPhone software that includes built-in podcast episode downloading. Why should you care?

Here’s why:

In the past, you could only watch (or listen to) podcasts on an iPhone by subscribing and downloading on your computer with iTunes, then syncing the episodes with your iPhone. While I’m sure a lot people went through the hassle, I’m pretty sure the vast majority did not.

A software programmer made a nice app called “Podcaster” that I’ve owned for several months that did built-in, on-the-fly episode downloading, but …

Video Is No Longer The Future of the Internet. It’s the Present.

Ten years ago I sat down with a VP of Cisco Systems and told him the future was video on the internet. At the time, he thought video would always be a minor, though growing element. He said “people don’t want to watch video on their PCs, they want to watch video on their TVs.”

I disagreed, and told him that in a few years it would be the #1 highest traffic driver on the net, and the #1 reason for people to upgrade their (Cisco) routing systems.

As I predicted, internet traffic is skyrocketing, propelled by video. :)

“The majority of the …

Some quotes:

“DV Kitchen is a finely crafted application, very easy to use and stable.”

“DV Kitchen has ‘TimeFreezer’, a much better way to make still images from video.”

“…you can have DV Kitchen add the ‘Shadow Box’ effect to movies that you create. It does this with one click and writes the html code for you automatically, sweet.

On SampleLab™:

“This is simply the best way I have ever seen to visually check the quality of your encoded video.”

While writing the review, Ken was annoyed at a couple of things: not being able to name or edit QuickSpecs settings, and the fact the …

Canon U.S.A. introduces the EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera featuring 1920×1080 HD video capture

Josh’s bottom line:

This still camera is exciting because it has a single large CMOS imaging sensor, which means the depth-of-field is similar to a film camera rather than a typical camcorder with small chips.

And it records Quicktime 1080p HD at 30 fps, around 48 minutes to a 16 GB card, or, output through HDMI (no audio though) to a portable recording device (which one?). The format is H.264 at 38.6 Mbits/sec, which should look amazing.

And, the low light performance looks great. It will be around $3500 with one lens, more as you add lenses.

There …

Using Photographs to Enhance Videos of a Static Scene

This innovative research into using high resolution photos in conjunction with lower quality video leads to some very interesting possibilities… the depth mapping conjures visions of adjustable depth-of-field in post, for example.

Check out the video examples:

The work presents a system for automatically producing a wide variety of video enhancements and visual effects. Unlike traditional visual effects software (e.g., After Effects, Shake, Boujou, etc), the system is completely …
